The file format should not interrupt the job
A phone may produce HEIC or HEIF rather than JPEG. Converting the only copy before upload can lose the original file and change its metadata. The current product accepts supported primary HEIC/HEIF images alongside JPEG, PNG and WebP. Acceptance remains subject to file size, decoded image dimensions and successful processing; a filename alone does not establish a supported image.
Originals and previews serve different purposes
Fotonachwerk preserves the exact uploaded original bytes and prepares separate browser and PDF derivatives. A smaller display image makes a record readable without silently replacing its source. Keep this distinction in mind when exporting or comparing files: the picture embedded in a report need not have the same bytes or format as the retained camera original.
A digest has a limited meaning
A SHA-256 digest supports comparison with recorded file bytes. It does not establish capture time, location, scene authenticity or legal acceptance. Metadata can be inaccurate or altered, and trusted database operators can rewrite stored records. Use the recorded information with appropriate context rather than presenting the digest as an independent certification of what happened on site.
Try representative files from your own device
Use invented project data and test portrait, landscape and rotated images from the intended camera settings. Review both browser presentation and PDF output, then download an original and compare it with the source. Current limits are 16 MiB and 48 megapixels per photo. Larger images are rejected rather than silently reducing the preserved original.
Keep remaining tests explicit
Synthetic format and pipeline checks are useful but do not replace physical iPhone and Android testing with varied real camera files. Verify orientation, downloads, error messages and interrupted connections before adopting the workflow. Do not delete the device copy until its upload is confirmed. A supported format is one part of a dependable record, not a guarantee about every phone configuration.
